Like Gold, Like Water, Like Food for the World

by Laurie Nichols

March 1, 2017

There are many passages in scripture which remind us that God is with us in whatever may come our way. Isaiah 43:2 is a great one: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.”

Perhaps my favorite, however, is Isaiah 30:19-21:

He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

I have clung to verse this many times for its simplicity in understanding. God hears us, God is near to us, God wants to heal us. There is no better gift God can give us than His very nearness as we walk through the valleys of life. We never walk alone.

In our outreach and ministry to others, this concept is like gold to those without resources. It’s like water to those parched dry. It’s like food for the starving. It’s the salve for the bleeding. You get my point. Over the past 15 years of being a Christian, there has been no more powerful gospel truth in my evangelism than this: God is near you and desires to have you draw near to Him.

You.are.never.alone. Those four words bring life to those who have been wounded by others, wounded by themselves, or wounded by the effects of sin in general.

If you are praying for a way to show & share the love of Jesus with those who don’t yet know Him, let me remind you that in your very hand and heart you hold a gift which many need and want to receive: God omniscient, God omnipresent, God all-knowing.

Tell others He is near. Tell them He hears.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matt. 11:28. Now that’s a gospel strategy. And one that will change lives. God be near YOU, friends! God is near you.
